Four key tips to help you save time whilst balancing motherhood, work and maintaining your home.
1. Set a vision and goal for your entire home
To maintain an organised and tidy home it is really important to establish these key ideas: first, how you would like your home to feel and look as soon as you enter your home and second, how you define the function of each room. It sounds silly, but taking the time to define each space provides you with a guide as to where to store and organise items when tidying. How are you expected to put something away when you haven’t created a place for it to live?
2. Only keep items in your home that you truly love, value and need
By creating clear pathways to remove unwanted and unneeded items from your home, you not only reduce the amount of time that it takes to clean and tidy your home, but you’re more importantly creating room for other far more important things in your life. Decluttering your home doesn’t need to be done in a time-intensive session, working on it daily as you go through your general household cleaning can be just as effective. Place a box or basket in a convenient location in your home to store donatable items and when full, drop it to your local charity of choice.
3. Organise your home according to the goal and vision you have set for your home
With the function of each space in mind, zone out your home by clearly identifying the purpose of each storage space. Outline what you intend to store in each cupboard, shelf and drawer and organise each space in a way that is functional for your needs.
4. Establish strong maintenance systems
An organised and tidy space doesn’t automatically stay tidy all by itself. Just like dishes that need washing, organising systems need attention to maintain order. Look at building strong routines and behaviours around cleaning and maintenance, as well as boundaries as to what types of things that you bring into your home.
